Symantec's Norton Ghost helps users to take images of their hard disk to clone or restore them in case of emergency. When Ghost is started, there are 3 main sections that you can view. Ghost Basic screen lets you choose to Backup or Restore your computer to/from a Ghost image file. Ghost Advanced screen lets you do much more. Clone is what you would do if you need to copy a disk. It allows you to copy a disk/partition to a different disk/partition. If you want to copy the contents of one hard drive straight onto another, for instance when you upgrade to a new PC, you can do that directly over a network, USB or parallel connection rather than needing to save the disk image and then restore it. If you're backing up a second hard drive that doesn't have Windows on, Ghost needs to work in DOS for storing your disk information as well as when it's time to recover it. Another nice tool is the Run Ghost Interactively option. This reboots your computer in a form of DOS and lets you run it yourself. You can copy an exact image of a hard disk or a partition onto an internal hard disk, a network drive, external USB 1.1/2.0 drive, or a FireWire drive. It also supports removable media, such as recordable CD and DVD drives,
Norton Ghost supports the Microsoft FAT and NTFS and Linux EXT2 file systems.
