Real VNC is a great remote control utility that allows you to do just about anything on a remote desktop of the computer, as if you were at the machine itself. VNC is available for many platforms: Linux, Solaris, Windows 9.x/NT/2000/XP, MacOS, DEC Alpha, and WindowsCE (viewer only). The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home. Real VNC package includes two components: the VNC server, which resides on the remote system, and the VNC viewer, which the client uses for viewing and remote control. WinVNC is a VNC server that will allow you to view your desktop from any VNC viewer .The VNC server accepts TCP/IP connections from VNC viewer. When you first run the VNC client, it prompts you to enter a server name or IP address of the VNC server you want to connect.

VNC viewer can be switched into a fullscreen mode. This is particularly useful when connecting to a remote screen which is the same size as yours. There are options in the client program to change the compression settings of the connection stream. This can be helpful under devices supporting 256 or less colours. Restrict to 8-bit forces the server to send a maximum of 256 colours at a time. The best method for such devices is to use the Restrict to 8-bit .
